Year 2, Day 269: 25 July 2014

This solitary worker was putting some finishing touches on the area around the boxes on the lower roof on Thursday and Friday. Otherwise, it's continue to be pretty quiet in the last half of the week.

NB. Unless something spectacular happens (like a ribbon-cutting ceremony complete with fireworks and a marching band), i will be taking a break from this and my other blogs for the next couple of weeks to focus on personal matters.

Year 2, Day 266: 22 July 2014

The track work continued this morning. As the few remaining workers make their way through the punch list on the interior of the substation, there aren't many opportunities for action shots or much new to report.

Year 2, Day 263: 19 July 2014

Saturday morning track work.
The CTA has posted a new flyer around the neighborhood, stating that work
on the tracks from Granville to Howard will continue for the next four weeks.

Year 2, Day 262: 18 July 2014

I haven't posted much lately because there hasn't been much to see. The work on the exterior of the substation seems to be finished (although there is some activity on the roof today). The work on the interior also seems to be close to completion; it looks like a lot of what's been happening lately has been related to final inspections to make sure everything is as it should be. There has been a good bit of activity on the tracks this week -- as these pictures show -- and i assume that means we are very close to having a fully operational substation.

Year 2, Day 254: 10 July 2014

Every day another of the final details is completed. The area at the north end of the site was filled in with concrete sidewalk today. At the end of the day, the fencing was replaced, but it won't be long now until it is gone for good.

Year 2, Day 253: 9 July 2014

Here is a glimpse behind the last piece of construction fence, at the north end of the substation site (at the corner of Farwell & Glenwood). The fence was removed briefly today while the concrete ramp (upper picture) and curb (lower picture) were poured.

Year 2, Day 251: 7 July 2014

There was more activity at the substation this morning than there's been in a while. The high-voltage electricians in their long dark coats were on the scene checking things out.

Year 2, Day 248: 4 July 2014

The view from the south end of the substation. There is still
some work being done under the viaduct at the north end,
but the substation itself is just about ready for action.
But lest we become to comfortable with the peace and
quiet, the city should be starting to dig up Farwell
for water main replacement soon.
