The serious work of digging got underway this week and the old retaining wall is rapidly becoming irrelevant as there is no longer much to retain. The first picture was taken on Monday afternoon, the rest were taken today.
This morning a whole convoy of dump trucks was lined up waiting to cart away the dirt as it was excavated.

It's amazing how entertaining it is to watch the bulldozers digging in the dirt.
I could watch for hours!
