Noisy Weekend Alert -- Day 187, 3 May 2013

Get out the earplugs! The steel casing will be installed beneath the trackbed this weekend, and it's going to be noisy! Here's the blast sent out by Alderman Joe Moore's office:

Very Loud Work this Weekend on CTA near Pratt and Farwell

Dear Neighbor,
As part of the construction of a new substation along the CTA embankment on Glenwood east of the tracks between Pratt and Farwell, the CTA this weekend will be installing steel casings (pipe) under the CTA tracks.  The casing will be installed on Glenwood east of the tracks between Farwell and Pratt.
The work will take place beginning this Saturday, May 4th, at 7:00 a.m. and will continue until Monday, May 6th, at 4:00 a.m.  The installation work will be performed around the clock from Saturday morning until early Monday morning.  The CTA has told me the work may be extremely loud, so please plan accordingly if you live near the construction site.
The new substation is designed to boost the electrical power on the tracks, which will help increase train speed and service reliability and reduce "slow zones" on the far north Red Line.  For more information on the substation project, CLICK HERE.
As always, if major changes in the work plan or schedule occur, I will let you know immediately through my electronic newsletter and postings on my Facebook page.
If you have any questions, please contact my office at ward49@cityofchicago.org or the CTA directly through Jeff Wilson, the CTA's Government and Community Relations Officer, atjwilson@transitchicago.com.
Sincerely,
Joe Moore

This is the first "noisy weekend" alert since 18 January. We survived that one, so i'm sure we will this one as well. But let me pass along to you the advice that i received from one of the crew this morning: Catch up on your sleep tonight!

  1. I like the Hearo's blue earplugs rated 33, from Walgreen's or CVS.
